Maria Barreiro Rodrigues (PhD) has been a member of the Board of Auditors of the Bank of Portugal since 2023. She is a specialist in financial audit and a researcher at CETRAD – Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies.
She has been a Professor of Management and Audit at Universidade Europeia since 2012, where she has coordinated master’s, undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes. She is also a visiting professor at the Lisbon Accounting and Business School; ISM – International School of Management, Germany; ISCAM, Mozambique; and a trainer at IMS | Universidade Nova, Lisbon.
Maria is a member of EBEN – European Business Ethics Network Portugal, and Chair of the Scientific Council of APEE – Portuguese Association of Business Ethics.
She has been a financial and statutory auditor since 2021 and served on committees of the Portuguese Institute of Statutory Auditors from 2013 to 2021 and again in 2025. She has over 30 years of professional experience, including five years as Chair of Audit Committees for public sector entities, three years as Manager of the Advisory Department, and ten years as Financial Manager of an international company.
Her academic work has been published in journals covering the fields of assurance, audit, corporate reporting, sustainability, ethics, governance, and higher education.
