With over two decades of immersion in sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), now commonly referred to as ESG, Dr. Liad Ortar has developed a profound understanding of these topics. His journey began more than 20 years ago as the head of Greenpeace in Israel. Following this, Liad shifted his focus to working with the business sector, helping them embrace sustainability fundamentals in their operations. In 2007, he introduced the GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines to the Israeli market by translating them into Hebrew.

Until 2021, Liad served as the Head of the Israeli CSR Institute (CSRI), transforming it into the most influential public think tank in Israel's CSR and sustainability landscape. In this role, he initiated an ESG practitioners’ course, conducted various assurance projects, and led regulatory efforts that resulted in mandating Israeli government-owned companies to publish sustainability reports. One of his notable achievements was introducing the SDGs to the Israeli market through the translation of the 'SDGs Compass.'

Before joining EFRAG, Liad co-founded and managed Shibolet ESG, a prominent consulting firm specializing in assisting companies with the preparation of various impact and sustainability outcomes, such as measuring carbon footprints and preparing for Net-zero and ESG reports. This work is based on globally accepted guidelines, including the ESRS, GRI framework, IFRS (ISSB), and others.

Liad holds a BA in political science, an MA in environmental studies, and a Ph.D. in Gerontology. His doctoral research investigated the connection between aging populations and CSR.

In November 2024, Liad joined EFRAG as a Senior Technical Manager, part of the environmental team. Among other tasks, he leads E5 (circular economy & resource use).
