Internship - Sustainability Reporting

  • Location: Brussels, Belgium
  • Period: Recruitment on a continuous basis, 6 months (renewal possible for one term of 6 months). Next opening: September 2025.
  • Hours: Full-time (38 hrs/week)
  • Allowance: Contribution to living costs, meal tickets + transport allowance

Role description:

EFRAG is offering internships in its sustainability reporting team and play a key role in developing the ESRS ecosystem that expands from environmental, social and governance pillars to SMEs and digital reporting.

As an intern, you will be expected to support the EFRAG sustainability reporting work in developing draft European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and implementation guidance materials. The internship role entails giving support to the work conducted by the EFRAG technical staff in drafting technical documents and performing research and analysis of current practices, regular engagement with EFRAG’s governance bodies (EFRAG Reporting Technical Expert Groups and Reporting Boards), working groups, and outreach to a broad range of external stakeholders including preparers, users, national standard setters, auditors, and regulators.

Through the internship, you will gain a unique professional experience in corporate reporting standard-setting in a dynamic and multi-cultural environment and have access to and direct interaction with a rich network of corporate reporting stakeholders.

Eligibility:

For an internship in sustainability reporting, you must have a university degree or be in the final year of your Master's in sustainability or one of the following related subjects: accounting, business, finance, economics, law, environmental and other-related science degrees or engineering.

In addition, the following is expected of interns:

  • Intellectual curiosity and keenness to learn more about sustainability reporting standard-setting;
  • Can demonstrate a basic awareness of main reporting standards and frameworks;
  • Ability to gather and analyse qualitative and quantitative data, and draft high-quality short reports;
  • A good team player;
  • Proactive, organised individuals capable of managing multiple tasks and communicating regularly to manage expectations;
  • Good communication skills with proficiency in both written and spoken English;
  • Have EEA nationality and be willing to relocate to Brussels during the internship;

The following qualifications are considered assets and will be positively valued in the selection process:

  • Critical, analytical mindset, eager to find new solutions;
  • Having gained a first understanding of ESRS sustainability reporting;
  • Candidates with some experience with SMEs or who have addressed SMEs during their education are encouraged to apply;
  • Candidates with general sustainability reporting knowledge and strong analytical skills are highly valued;
  • Education and/or experience in digital reporting is a plus – familiarity with XBRL and Python are considered assets.
