Prof. Dr Gunnar Rimmel is Chair in Accounting & Corporate Reporting at Aalborg Business School and Visiting Professor at Henley Business School, University of Reading, where he founded the Henley Centre for Accounting Research & Practice (HARP). His research focuses on sustainability reporting, corporate disclosure, and accounting regulation.
Prof. Rimmel has been actively engaged with EFRAG, having contributed to the development of implementation guidelines for the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), and previously served on the European Lab Project Task Force (PTF) on sustainability reporting. He continues to follow EU sustainability reporting regulation closely, with a particular interest in its academic and practical implications.
He is co-editor of the Research Handbook on Sustainability Reporting (Edward Elgar, 2023) and editor of the textbook Accounting for Sustainability, with the second edition forthcoming from Routledge in 2025 and a Chinese translation expected in 2026.
Prof. Rimmel serves on the editorial boards of Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal (AAAJ), Accounting Forum, and Social and Environmental Accountability Journal. He is an advisory member of the British Accounting and Finance Association’s FARSIG, and founded the annual European Sustainability Accounting and Reporting Conference (ESARC), which rotates among European universities.
